Statistics Say You Should Forego Facebook if You’re Divorcing Your Spouse

As many as 81 percent of the members of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers have used or have encountered evidence taken from social media websites. The biggest culprit? Facebook, according to the attorneys; 66 percent of the lawyers surveyed said that was the most frequently cited site.

Certainly when you’re going through a divorce, it’s tough not to look at your ex’s social media profiles—but remember, he or she is looking at yours, too.

That means you can’t post negative comments about your ex, and you certainly shouldn’t post photos of you out on the town (especially if it’s your weekend with the kids). Everything you put on Facebook, Twitter, or even Pinterest could be used against you during your divorce—or worse, your children could see it.

Can You Still Use Social Media if You’re Going Through a Divorce? 

Any Milwaukee divorce lawyer will tell you that if you choose to use your social media profiles to catch up with friends and family, that’s great—but you’ll need to be careful about the types of things you’re sharing with the whole world. You never know who’s looking (or who’s taking screen shots of your comments, photos or status updates).
