Some police jurisdictions in Milwaukee have been cracking down on prostitution, and it’s not anything like the typical undercover stings you see on television. First things first: if you’re accused of any type of prostitution or of soliciting a prostitute, you need to call a prostitution lawyer in Milwaukee right away.

Milwaukee’s Prostitution Crackdown

When someone is picked up in Milwaukee for soliciting a prostitute, they’re booked into the county jail. From there, they’re photographed and their pictures are posted online. The photos are also distributed to local media outlets, according to Milwaukee District Two police Captain Alfonso Morales.

Their cars are immediately towed, too.

Men and women who are arrested for prostitution are immediately drug-tested and questioned about using drugs. They’re also asked whether they’ve been trafficked or dealt with domestic abuse, and then they’re referred to local agencies that aim to help them.

Prostitution is a Far-Reaching Term

You could be breaking the law if you even offer or request some kind of sexual gratification in exchange for something of value. Anything of value, actually. That means money doesn’t ever need to change hands in order for you to be charged with a prostitution-related crime.

What to Do if You’re Arrested for a Prostitution-Related Crime in Milwaukee

Before you talk to police, even on the scene, let them know that you’d like to speak to an attorney. If you’re not convinced, check out the possible consequences of a conviction:
  • If convicted as the prostitute or the person who solicited a prostitute, it’s considered a Class A misdemeanor. That conviction can put you in jail for up to nine months and cost you as much as $10,000 in fines.
  • Soliciting a child for prostitution is a Class D felony.

Remember, police could misconstrue any statement that you make. They may believe that you’re confessing, or they may coerce a confession out of you. We can’t stress it enough… it’s so important that you keep quiet and request to talk to a Milwaukee prostitution attorney right away.
