Wisconsin Department of Transportation Executive Fired for Insensitive Immigration Remarksby Gamino Law Offices on 08/27/13
Immigration reform is a hot topic of debate in Wisconsin, especially for Gov. Scott Walker. Walker has been supporting a pathway for immigrants to attain citizenship, but there are some who are not onboard with his plan, particularly a state Department of Transportation executive named Steven Krieser.
Krieser, the Assistant Deputy Secretary at the state Department of Transportation, had been making some insulting remarks about immigrants on Facebook, going as far as to compare immigrants with the devil.
"You may see Jesus when you look at them," wrote Krieser on Facebook. "I see Satan."
Well, Gov. Walker wasn’t having any of it and made the decision to promptly fire Krieser as a result of his comments.
"[The Facebook] comments are repugnant, completely unacceptable, and have no place in Governor Walker's administration," said Walker’s spokesman, Tom Evenson, to the Journal Sentinel. "Governor Walker condemns his views, and they do not represent the governor or his administration in any way."
It’s good to know that the governor himself is behind immigration reform in Wisconsin. There are thousands of immigrants living in the state that have come up against a wall when trying to apply for legal status or in obtaining any help to resolve a legal issue.
Luckily, foreigners in need of assistance can always turn to a Wisconsin immigration lawyer to protect their rights and strive for a positive resolution for their case. The immigration attorneys at the Gamiño Law Offices understand the difficulties immigrants can face when trying to get on the path toward citizenship, including language barriers, legal issues and discrimination, and will work diligently to resolve any matter, from applying for a green card to reuniting families from abroad.
