Scare of a lifetime
by Gamino Law Offices on 06/21/13
A man who's appeals were finally successful and was granted a new trial through the tireless work of the Wisconsin Innocence Project accepted a plea bargain this week. The man was originally convicted of homicide and given a life sentence. However, after his case was brought back to court for a new trial that would have happened in a few weeks, he accepted a plea bargain that has resulted in a significantly reduced sentence of only 5 years in prison with 2 years of extended supervision, after pleading to a reduced charge of homicide by negligent use of a dangerous weapon. As he had already served almost 5 years as his appeals wound through the system, he will be eligible for release over the weekend. From a life sentence to almost immediate release - now that's a great result!
